Auburn Tigers Face 2025 College Football Future Market Doubts

At the onset of the 2025 season is a stark reality. Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is on the NCAAF future odds clock. Last year, the Auburn Tigers regressed in head coach Hugh Freeze’s second season on the Plains. Auburn finished 5-7 and failed to qualify for a bowl for the second time in three seasons. In 2023, Auburn finished with a disappointing loss in the Music City Bowl to end Freeze’s first season at 6-7. Last year marked the fifth consecutive season that Auburn failed to reach the 7-win plateau. Freeze was not hired to be mediocre.

  • Nov 8 at Vanderbilt Commodores
  • Nov 15 OFF
  • Nov 22 vs. Mercer Bears
  • Nov 29 vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

Despite Auburn’s problems, there is optimism on the plains that better days are ahead. Head coach Hugh Freeze is still considered an asset who will help rebuild Auburn to its past levels of success. With the retirement of Alabama coach Nick Saban, the rest of the SEC believes that anything is possible. Auburn hopes to make a splash in coach Hugh Freeze’s third season. Correlate that it is a bowl berth, and a winning record is a bare minimum demand.

The Tigers catch a sportsbook break by not playing two of the SEC’s CFP teams from last year. There’s no Tennessee or Texas, and not having to play Ole Miss or LSU is a major positive. It would’ve been nice to have Mississippi State on the slate. But throw in the absence of Florida and South Carolina, and there isn’t too much to get upset about.

Get by Baylor to start the season, and there are four built-in 2025 college football futures wins in the non-conference games. Certainly, the SEC slate has issues. But most of the biggest games are at Jordan-Hare. Of course, it’s not a plus to have Georgia and Alabama on the slate, but that’s part of the rivalry deal for Auburn. Both big games are at home, and there’s time to prepare. Correlate, there’s a week off before dealing with the Bulldogs. And there’s a week off and the scrimmage against Mercer before facing the Crimson Tide.

The two midseason road games against Arkansas and Vanderbilt are manageable, and that’s it for the away dates after September. But the Tigers have a few potential killers in September. That opener against Baylor won’t be easy. Additionally, back-to-back road games at Oklahoma and Texas A&M will pose a significant challenge. Dates against Georgia and Missouri follow. Of great concern is that a 0-4 SEC start wouldn’t be entirely out of the question.

If the Tigers don’t get off to a hot start, the pressure will be on in the second half. They should be able to push through November. In turn, there’s no room for error with Alabama, as always, at the end.

The Tigers will be better, and it’ll start with a 3-2 September and a split between Georgia and Mizzou before a relatively easy finishing kick. While it won’t be what the base wants, the Tigers will go to a decent bowl with at least seven, possibly eight wins.
