In 2014, the Arizona State Sun Devils posted their final double-digit win season until last year, when second-year head coach Kenny Dillingham restored the Sun Devils to glory. Arizona State won the Big 12 Conference championship in its inaugural season as a member. Subsequently, it advanced to the College Football Playoff, where it lost a shootout to the Texas Longhorns. Dillingham took the program to unprecedented heights.

Now, the offshore betting question is whether Arizona State can maintain its success, or was it a one-hit wonder? The Sun Devils will not be catching anyone off guard in 2025, but they are also building on their success. ASU has emerged as a credible program and an attractive location in the minds of prospects.
The Sun Devils won a Big 12 title in their first season in the conference in 2024. Now they’ll attempt to pull off the rare 2025 college football futures feat of repeating as champions. Sam Leavitt and Jordyn Tyson are already being projected as potential first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Tyson was cleared to participate in the spring after sitting out the 2024 postseason due to a shoulder injury.
There’s no question Arizona State will miss tailback Cam Skattebo’s production. Correlate that Kyson Brown, Raleek Brown, and Kanye Udoh are in the mix for carries. Ten starters are coming back from a defense that led the league in run defense (112.9 yards). Also, the Sun Devils were No. 3 in scoring defense (22.6 points). The Sun Devils gave up too many big plays in the passing game. In turn, they were working on getting more pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
If Mississippi State is struggling again, there’s a chance for a big September to get off to a huge start. But the road games are spread out, and they’re all nasty. Certainly, Mississippi State will be better. Meanwhile, Baylor is a formidable opponent, even with a week of preparation. Of course, traveling to Utah will still be a significant challenge. Throw in the away dates with Iowa State and Colorado, and it’ll be a tough run.
Thus, it might not be another championship season, but the team is a factor throughout thanks to a great start. With a whole slew of home wins over the second half of the season, ASU is deep in the hunt for big things. A loss to either Utah or Iowa State on the road will be just enough to screw everything up. In addition, there will be at least one other Big 12 loss somewhere – but it’ll be another great run.
