Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers NCAAF Betting Odds & Picks (11/09/2024)

Alabama head coach Kalden DeBoer is going through a literal trial by fire in his first season. DeBoer is learning about the College Football Betting adage that you never want to be the man who follows the man. Certainly, DeBoer is a good coach, perhaps one of the best. But like everyone else, he is not Nick Saban. When Saban retired there were even Alabama fans who said it was time. Now, nobody is saying that. Another adage applies to Saban. To illuminate, Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Now, the Tide has a tough road game against LSU.

Alabama Crimson Tide Team Overview

Last game, the Alabama Crimson Tide won 34-0 against the Missouri Tigers as 16-point home favorites. The game went under the total of 51. Alabama has a record of 6-2 straight up, 4-4 against the spread, and 5-3 over/under the total. Alabama ranks 37th for total offense, 42nd for passing, 47th for rushing and 16th for scoring. Defensively they rank 43rd overall, 35th against the pass, 64th against the rush, and 19th for points allowed. Also, Alabama ranks 62nd for fewest turnovers lost and 18th for takeaways.

Previously, Alabama was coming off a loss at Tennessee. Next was a down-to-the-wire win over South Carolina and another defeat at Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide bounced back strongly from their second loss in three weeks with their playoff hopes on the line. They had already lost multiple games before November for the first time since 2007 but took Mizzou. To show, Jamarion Miller rushed for two touchdowns, and Alabama’s defense had three interceptions in a 34-0 victory.

In sum, Jalen Milroe was 16 of 26 passing for 215 yards for Alabama. He also ran for 50 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown when he bounced off a blocker and reversed the field, and a 32-yarder to set it up. Miller scored on runs of 3 and 11 yards, and Justice Haynes had a 35-yard touchdown run.

Alabama preserved its second shutout of the season. Correlate it was their first against an SEC opponent since a 41-0 win over Mississippi State in 2020. Bama held with a late goal-line stand in addition to the forced turnovers.

“They’re hunting it. They’re anticipating it a little bit,” Tide coach Kalen DeBoer said. “A little bit more of an attacking mindset, not so much on their heels. Wanted them to get that shutout there.”

LSU Tigers Team Overview

Last game, the LSU Tigers lost 38-23 against the Texas A&M Aggies as 2-point road dogs. The game went over the online betting total of 54.5. LSU has a record of 6-2 straight up, 3-5 against the spread, and 3-5 over/under the total. LSU ranks 21st for total offense, 6th for passing, 112th for rushing and 34th for scoring. Defensively they rank 58th overall, 86th against the pass, 48th against the rush, and 54th for points allowed. Also, LSU ranks 52nd for fewest turnovers lost and 112th for takeaways.

The Aggies picked off three of Garrett Nussmeier’s passes after halftime to get their seventh straight victory since losing to Notre Dame in the opener.

LSU led by 10 with about eight minutes left in the third. However, BJ Mayes grabbed an interception and returned it to the Tigers 8. Next Marcel Reed came in and scored on a keeper on the next play to cut it to 17-14. The Tigers had a chance to extend their lead with about five minutes left in the third when they lined up for a 46-yard field goal attempt. But the ball was snapped before the holder was ready, bounced off his shoulder, and rolled away. A second 8-yard run by Reed made it 21-17 with about a minute left in the third. Mayes intercepted Nussmeier again two plays later to give the Aggies the ball right back. In turn, Reed’s third TD came on a 4-yard scamper early in the fourth.
