January 11th, 2019 NCAA Basketball, Online Wagering

At the beginning of Shaka Smart’s arrival to Texas was considerable fanfare and high expectations.  Smart made his fame as head coach of Virginia Commonwealth where he led the program to the 2011 Final Four.  While his three years at Texas produced two March Madness bids the overall feel has been underwhelming.  But Texas can make a huge coming out statement for betting lines NCAA basketball.  A win at Kansas would give Smart and the Horns considerable credibility.  On the whole the Jayhawks remain one of the elite blue blood programs in the sport.

Texas vs. Kansas TV Coverage: ESPN

Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas has been struggling to maintain betting value recently with just three payouts in their last nine games.  And just two of their last six games have gone under the total.  KU now stands at 12-2 straight up but just 6-8 vs. the odds with 8-5-1 over the total.  Of great concern is that the Jayhawks lack dominant metrics associated with a Final Four team.  As an example, they rank 69th in the nation for scoring offense but 143rd for points allowed.  Deric Lawson leads KU with 18.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per outing.

Texas Longhorns

Late on Texas has been reasonably profitable with four payouts in their last six games after a slow start.  Also, they have gone under the total in six of their last nine outings.  Overall the Longhorns are 10-4 straight up, 6-8 against the spread, and 4-10 under the total.  Of major concern is an inept offense that ranks 217th in the nation for scoring.  Defensively Texas ranks a much more impressive 32nd in the land for points allowed.  There is not a dominant player in their roster.

Stats to Consider

Texas has been a solid betting lines NCAA basketball value as a road dog.  To illuminate the Longhorns have covered five of their last eight getting points away from home.  Three of their last four in that situation have gone under the total.  Balanced against that is the weak value by Kansas as a home chalk.  KU has covered just three of their last 10 as a favorite at Allen Fieldhouse.  Three of their last four in that role have gone over the total.

Stats to Consider

Kansas has had a slight online wagering advantage with Texas.  Late on the Jayhawks have paid in three of their last five meetings with the Longhorns.  Just two of the last seven games between these teams went over the total.  What is surprising is that the Horns have been quite the wagering value at Allen Fieldhouse.  As an example, Texas has covered four straight games at Kansas.  Just one of the last eight in this series at Kansas has gone over the total.

Matchup to Watch

This could be a good spot for Texas as their defense is a matchup advantage.  As mentioned earlier they bring good betting lines NCAA basketball value at Kansas.  Further, KU lacks the offense to pull away against the strong Longhorns defense.
