Nebraska Limps into Purdue as College Basketball Betting Line Dog

February 6th, 2019 NCAA Basketball

Consistent with Nebraska basketball is more seasons than not ending up without dance shoes for March Madness betting.  Head coach Tim Miles was charged with getting the Big Red back into the Big Dance this year.  Following a hot start with the college basketball line Nebraska is in the midst of a stunning collapse.  Contrarily Purdue has gotten stronger as the season progressed.  Most important of all their betting value has greatly increased.  Head coach Matt Painter has again proven to be a steadying influence.  For this purpose, the Boilermakers are in the thick of the Big Ten Conference race.

Nebraska Cornhuskers

Extending Nebraska’s misery has been a flood of red ink for their fans and backers.  In fact, NU has given new meaning to the moniker “Big Red.”  Nebraska has covered the spread in just two of their last nine games.  Five of their last six have gone under the total.  National metrics have the Huskers ranked 143rd for scoring offense and 16th for points allowed.  Owing to that is a mark of 13-9 straight up and 11-9-1 against the spread with 8-12 under the total.

Purdue Boilermakers

Late results on Purdue have made gamblers quite happy.  The Boilers have covered seven of their last nine games with three of their last five going under the total.  Purdue ranks 61st for scoring offense and 111th for points allowed.  In sum the Boilers are now 16-6 straight up, 13-9 vs. the odds and 11-11 on totals.  Purdue is chasing Michigan and Michigan State in the Big Ten Conference race.

Important Names on Court

Immediately catching attention for Purdue is Carsen Edwards.  The guard leads with 24.5 points per game.  Counter to that is Nebraska’s James Palmer Jr with 19.3 points per outing.

Stats to Consider

Despite their recent woes Nebraska has been an effective road dog value with the college basketball betting line.  NU has covered 11 of their last 13 getting points away from home.  Four of the Huskers last five in that role went under the total.  Along the same lines Purdue has been a strong home court chalk.  As an example, the Boilermakers have covered eight of their last 11 laying points at Mackey Arena.  Six of their last nine in that situation have gone under the total.

Team vs. Team

Nebraska has had the recent NCAA Basketball advantage in their series with Purdue.  To show the Big Red has covered five of their last eight games with the Boilermakers.  Four of the last five between these teams have gone over the total.  By contrast Mackey Arena has provided Purdue a bit of an edge.  The Boilers have paid in two of their last three home games with Nebraska.  And two of those three games went over the total.

Matchup to Watch

Current results make Nebraska a difficult sell for the college basketball betting line.  Purdue is in much better form and has the home court advantage head to head.
