At the onset of the season, the Kansas Jayhawks and Baylor Bears were among the Big 12 future market favorites with the College Basketball lines. However, those name brands may be from another era. Kansas and Baylor struggled to stay above .500 in conference action. Meanwhile, Houston, Texas Tech, Arizona, BYU, and Iowa State proved to be the top Big 12 regular season contenders. But the Big 12 tournament offers those who struggled in the regular season a shot at redemption. In a deep league like the Big 12, there are numerous possibilities.

Houston Cougars
Head coach Kelvin Sampson’s team is a bona fide Final Four contender. Houston was 26-4 straight up and 16-14 against the offshore betting spread. Late on, the Cougars got the cash in four of their last recent seven games. Houston boasts the best defense in college basketball, with enough offense to prevail agaisnt the best. Consider that the Cougars rank 3rd in the nation for 3-point shooting.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Certainly, one of the most surprising teams in college basketball this season was the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas Tech has tremendous balance, with NCAABB odds rankings of 35th for scoring offense and 48th for points allowed. Namely, JT Toppin stands out with 17.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest.
Arizona Wildcats
Arizona showed well as a new member of the Big 12 Conference after their move from the defunct Pac-12. The Wildcats were 20-10 straight up, 16-14 against the spread, and 16-14 over the total. Of major concern is that the Wildcats got the money in only two of their most recent seven matchups. Five of those seven matchups went under the total.
BYU Cougars
Despite the departure of head coach Brad Pope to Kentucky, BYU showed well in the Big 12. BYU was 22-8 straight up and 18-11-1 agaisnt the spread. Late on, the Cougars made gamblers happy with eight payouts in their most recent ten games. The Cougars rank 31st out of 351 D1 teams for scoring offense. First-year head coach Kevin Young has been an unqualified success.
Iowa State Cyclones
Following a strong start, the Cyclones faded a bit down the stretch. Iowa State got the cash in just two of its most recent six games. Overall, Iowa State had a record of 22-8 straight up, 16-14 against the spread, and 13-17 under the total. Previously, Iowa State was a 1-dimensional team. But this year, Iowa State head coach TJ Otzelberger engineered a more balanced approach. ISU ranks 41st for scoring offense and 63rd for points allowed.
Baylor Bears
Since their 2022 national championship, the Baylor Bears have slipped. Head coach Scott Drew’s program has not kept up since the transfer portal, and NIL increased in significance. Of major concern was the terrible board value supplied by Baylor. To show, the Bears were 18-12 straight up but just 9-18-2 against the spread. Baylor sent gamblers to the payout window in only two of their most recent ten games.
Kansas Jayhawks
In a similar way to Baylor, head coach Bill Self and his Jayhawks were in the red. KU had a record of 19-11 straight up and 14-16-2 against the spread. The once-lethal Kansas offense ranked 142nd in the nation for scoring. Late on, Kansas covered only three of its most recent eight matchups.
