College Basketball Betting Line Suspense: Villanova vs. Michigan

Villanova is striking a national championship pose.  Just as important they are one of the most profitable teams on the board in any sport.  Michigan has also caught fire at the best possible time.  And they too have been regulars at the cashier’s cage.  As a result, both schools will meet in the National Championship Game on Monday night.  In fact, opposites will attract with the college basketball betting line.  Offense is what has made the Villanova Wildcats a cash cow.  Defense is what has led the Michigan Wolverines to a surprise Final Four run.

Wildcats vs. Wolverines TV Coverage: TBS

Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines have a record of 33-7 straight up and 24-12-2 against the spread.  They have lost just one of their last eight games vs. the college basketball betting line.  Over the total has paid in just one of their last six games.  Michigan has the eighth best defense in the nation.  This is a stark contrast to most Michigan teams.  Head coach John Beilein resurrected the program with high octane offense.  He had to emphasize defense this year out of sheer necessity.  And to his credit he got a full buy-in from his players.

Villanova Wildcats

Villanova has been one of the hottest online betting commodities all season.  Dominance is shown in their record of 35-4 straight up and 27-12 against the spread.  Only once in their last nine games have they failed to get the money.  Six of the Wildcats last nine games went over the total.  Offensively Nova ranks as the top scoring team in the country.  Junior guard Jalen Brunson will be the most talented player on the court.  He is the trigger man for the Wildcats attack.  Brunson has a team best 19 points per game.

John Beilein

John Beilein is in his 11th season as head coach of Michigan.  He made his name during a five-year run at West Virginia.  While there he led the Mountaineers to the Elite Eight.  It took a while for his program to get going at Michigan.  But since 2010-11 the Wolverines have made the NCAA Tournament every year but once.  They lost the 2013 National title game to Louisville.  Ironically The Ville had to vacate its title due to the FBI investigation.

Jay Wright

Jay Wright is in his 17th season at Villanova.  Like Beilein he needed time to get the Nova program up to par.  Since 2005 the Wildcats have missed the NCAA Tournament just one time.  Wright led them to the 2016 National Championship.  This is his third Final Four appearance.  Wright is celebrated for his stylish dress and appearance.  He is also a cool customer with his players.

Matchup to Watch

The Villanova offense vs. Michigan defense makes for a fascinating matchup.  Both teams are on fire with the college basketball betting line.  Michigan’s defense and resiliency will make them a tough out.  And the old adage says “Defense wins championships.”
