Bear Market for Baylor and its Final Four Aspirations

For Baylor Bears men’s basketball, these are the best College basketball betting times. In fact, it hasn’t been this good since 1946-50. Then, the Bears made the Final Four twice. Their best finish then was a loss in the 1948 national championship game. From 1950 through 2008, Baylor had only one invite to the Big Dance (1988) and was bounced in the first round. But in 2003, Baylor made the most important move in program history. Baylor hired Scott Drew as its head coach. And the program renaissance began.

2023-24 Baylor Bears Basketball Outlook

The Baylor Bears program remains at the top of college hoops sportsbook programs. Starting with head coach Scott Drew. He has mastered the art of culture-building and recruits players who fit a certain identity of toughness. There’s no reason to believe that the winning will slow down, and for a fourth straight year, a national title is a real possibility.  Now, Baylor is one of the best programs in the country. Also, Bears basketball is valuable to the sport and the university itself.

Baylor is one of the best rebuilds in college basketball. Especially with head coach Scott Drew leading the Bears to their first-ever Big 12 title and a national championship in 2021. However, multiple draft picks later, Baylor no longer possesses the championship caliber they once did. Initially, Baylor ranked highly at the start of the 2022-23 season. However, the Bears fell drastically after losses to Iowa State in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. And then a second round of March Madness to Creighton. The Bears are ranked for this upcoming season. But considerably lower than they have been in the past two campaigns.

With only one starter, Jalen Bridges, returning, Baylor was due for a NCAABB betting refresh. Drew recruited experienced guard transfers Ray Dennis from Toledo and Jayden Nunn from VCU. These transfers are veterans at the college level. So there might be new faces. Gamblers can expect the Bears to be familiar with the game and fit right into the coaching style.
Also, Drew landed a replacement for Keyonte George, Baylor’s highest-ever recruit. Cause by bringing in 5-star Ja’Kobe Walter, who is the top shooting guard in the nation. Rounding out the projected starters, big man Yves Missi reclassifies and adds a presence in the paint.

Under Drew, the Bears are heavily focused on the 3-point line. To show, Baylor shot 36.8% from deep last year. However, the Bears are quite weak within the perimeter, allowing opponents to shoot 53.3% from inside in the 2022-23 season. Perhaps with the experience of Bridges and the size of Missi, Baylor can limit this issue. Since Scott Drew adopted the no-middle, the Bears had gone fourth, 22nd, and 13th in adjusted defense. Drew addressed that by getting bigger on the perimeter and landing a rim protector. Freshman Yves Missi, a 7-footer, looked like he could be one of the best defensive bigs in the country during Baylor’s overseas trip.

Additionally, there is excitement around freshman wing Ja’Kobe Walter and transfer point guard Ray Dennis. Consider in a down year, Baylor finished third in the Big 12 and had a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It’s not quite Self-consistency, but Drew is the next-best bet in the Big 12. He’s finished in the top two in three of the last four seasons.
