Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Pelicans Game 4 Updated odds, picks and analysis

New Orleans earned considerable credibility this season.  Lost in the shuffle of better known teams they proved a surprise.  Anonymity helped make them a profitable team on the board all season.  And Anthony Davis has demonstrated why he is a top shelf NBA star.  Davis can win a game on his own.  And in fact, he was most responsible for the Pelicans first round clinch.  Unfortunate Portland became another team caught off guard against New Orleans.  But Golden State is quite another betting on NBA games factor.  Champions in two of the past three years they epitomize the elite.

Warriors vs. Pelicans V TV Coverage: ABC

Stephen Curry returned with a bang in game two of this series.  He came off the bench to drain 28 points in a 121-116 win.  Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 29 points.  Durant has done much to carry the Warriors while Curry was out.  As was the case the Warriors have not been a profitable betting on NBA Games pick.  They have failed to get the money in three of their last four games.  Just two of their last seven playoff games went under the total.  Public popularity has long been a drain on the Warriors ability to cover.

New Orleans has been highly profitable in post season.  Five payouts in their last six games have kept gamblers happy.  Four of those six games went over the total.  While the Pelicans boast Davis, they have their share of troubles.  Defensively they ranked 29th in the Association this year.  As a one-dimensional team they rely on winning shootouts.  Davis has averaged 30 points per game so far in the playoffs.  Guard Jrue Holiday has offered strong support with 24 per outing.  Head coach Alvin Gentry has enjoyed a bit of career revival. Phoenix fired him in 2013.

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr may be the smartest man in the room.  He nearly took the New York Knicks job in 2014.  His friend and mentor Phil Jackson gave the hard sell.  Jackson is the “Zen Master” that is among the greatest coaches in NBA history.  But Kerr turned down his hero.  Instead he saw the potential at Golden State.  Kerr struck gold with two NBA titles in his first three years on the job.  New York continues to flounder.  Jackson departed in frustration.  Goes to show the best decisions are those you DON’T make.

With Curry back the Warriors are a big sportsbook favorite.  However, the Pelicans are likely to be a value enhanced dog.  The Public will be all over the defending NBA champions.  New Orleans has covered six of their last ten against Golden State.  10 of the last 12 in this series went over the total.

Matchup to Watch

Golden State is a perpetual overlay.  New Orleans will bring betting on NBA Games value as a playoff home dog.  Even in a loss they can still pay out.
