Rockets Look to Soar in Betting on NBA Games Matchup at Minnesota

Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

A clear difference can be seen with the Houston Rockets on the hardwood compared to the betting board.  Houston shares the Southwest Division lead with the San Antonio Spurts.  But that has not translated into betting on NBA Games success.  The Rockets are in the red as they win games and lose money as consistent overlays.  At the beginning of the season the Minnesota Timberwolves were embroiled in turmoil and controversy.  So too has this turned into a lost season in the Twin Cities.  The trade of Jimmy Butler and firing of coach Tom Thibodeau blew up the franchise.

Houston Rockets

Three payouts in Houston’s last 10 games have not pleased gamblers.  Four of the Rockets last six have gone over the total.  So too does Houston rank 11th in the NBA for scoring offense and 14th for points allowed.  Owing to that is a record of 32-23 straight up, 25-29-1 vs. the odds and 31-24 over the total.  Houston leads the Southwest Division.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota has failed to cover five of their last six games with four of their last six going over the total.  As a result, the Timberwolves are 25-30 straight up, 27-28 against the line, and 29-26 over the total.  NBA metrics have the Wolves ranked 18th for scoring offense and 18th for points allowed.  Minnesota is dead last in the Northwest Division.

Important Names on Court

Last year’s scoring champion and All Star guard James Harden leads the Rockets.  Harden is averaging 36.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game.  Center Clint Capela remains out with a thumb issue.  Capela’s injury has been a drag on Houston’s value.  Contrarily Minnesota is led by center Karl Anthony Towns’s 23.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.

Stats to Consider

Late results have not been good on the road for Houston.  As an example, the Rockets have covered just two of their last eight games away from home.  Three of their last four in that role went over the betting on NBA Games total.  Along the same lines Minnesota has been a terrible value on their home court.  The Wolves have paid in just three of their last 11 games at Target Center.  Three of their last five home matchups went over the total.

Team vs. Team

Minnesota has had the recent sportsbook advantage in their series with Houston.   To show the Wolves have covered seven of their last ten against Houston.  Three of the last four between these teams have gone over the total.  Further, the Rockets have failed to cover four of their last seven visits to Minnesota.  Seven of the last nine in this matchup at Target Center went over the total.

Matchup to Watch

Certainly, the absence of Capela has been a betting on NBA Games drag for Houston.  Despite their overall weakness this is a good spot for Minnesota to bring better than expected value.
