NBA Betting: New Orleans Hornets at Dallas

November 30, 2010 NBA Basketball

NBA betting favors Dallas on Sunday as they host the New Orleans Hornets in a game that can be seen on ESPN.

Although the Mavericks are playing very well lately, the Hornets have owned this basketball betting series against Dallas.

NBA betting has seen New Orleans win 7 of the last 10 against Dallas and they are 7-3 against the basketball betting pointspread.  The Mavericks did win 94-90 at home back in December against the Hornets but they did not cover the spread.  The Hornets won at home 114-107 back in November.  In the last five games at Dallas the Mavericks have won three of the five but they are just 2-3 against the NBA betting odds.  Six of the last ten in this series have gone under the basketball betting total.

The Hornets are not currently in a playoff spot in the Western Conference and that may not change.  The Hornets are not expected to have Chris Paul back until sometime next month and New Orleans is simply not a contender without him in the lineup.  The Hornets do have some talent but without their leading scorer they are a risky team to take in NBA betting. Darren Collison has filled in pretty well but the Hornets are not a deep enough team to win games consistently without Paul in the lineup.  They are also not playing good enough defense as they are 20th in the league.  The offense for the Hornets is nothing special either as they rank 16th in the league.

Dallas has played very well since getting Caron Butler in a trade from Washington. The Mavericks proved they can be a top team as they beat the Lakers earlier this week in NBA betting.  One problem for Dallas is covering the basketball betting odds at home. That continues to be a struggle although they did cover against the Lakers. A record of 7-21 though is simply not going to get it done against the NBA betting pointspread.  Dirk Nowitzki leads the Mavericks in scoring and now that Butler is on the team the Mavericks have an additional scoring option to go along with Nowitzki and Jason Terry.  Now the Mavericks just need to find a way to cover the NBA betting odds consistently at home. They will get a chance to do that as they are favored in this game on Sunday.
