Dallas nearly made it to the NBA Finals in 1988 after five straight postseason appearances. Dallas fell in seven games to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. And that was the furthest the Mavs advanced in the playoffs until franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki came to the Big D.
Dallas went a full decade without making the playoffs. But the Mavericks ended up contending with Nowitzki, Michael Finley, and Steve Nash.
