Blazers and Hornets Featured on NBA-TV

January 16th, 2024 Live NBA Betting Lines

Basketball betting on Saturday includes a matchup in New Orleans that will be televised on NBA-TV as the Hornets host the Portland Trail Blazers. It should be a competitive game in NBA betting since the teams have split their last ten meetings. Basketball betting has not been very successful this season on New Orleans but it should be noted that Chris Paul missed a lot of time. He is back in the lineup for the Hornets and they are a much better team when he plays.  In this series the Blazers are 6-4 against the NBA betting odds in the last ten games.  The teams have split their last two meetings with the road team winning each time.  New Orleans won 98-97 in Portland while the Blazers won 86-78 in New Orleans. Portland has won the last two trips to New Orleans after losing the previous three.  Seven of the last ten in this series have gone under the total in basketball betting.

In the two games this season, Portland has gained a 99-73 advantage on the boards, including a 32-14 offensive rebounding margin that has led to a 39-12 edge in second-chance points. The Trail Blazers have outscored the Hornets in the paint, 88-62. The road team has won four straight meetings in the series after the home team came away victorious in each of the nine games before those four games.  Portland has won two consecutive games road games vs. the Hornets for the first time since a four-game road winning streak from 1999-2003.

Portland has been more successful this season in terms of the point spread in road games.  That is unusual because normally the Blazers are very strong at home and weak on the road. That is not the case this year.  Portland has a much better point spread road record than their home mark.  The Blazers are 5th in the league on defense while they are 22nd on offense.  Portland is led by Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.

New Orleans does not have a winning record vs. the number at home or on the road.  It was thought that Chris Paul might not return at all this season but he is back and the Hornets are a better team with him playing.  Darren Collison played very well while Paul was out but the Hornets didn’t win very many games.
