Twins Seek MLB Futures Rebound in 2025

Minnesota has made the playoffs in four of the past eight campaigns but did not make it in 2024. The last time Minnesota made the ALCS was in 2002. In the 2024 offseason, the Twins were Minnesota Nice, meaning that they did not gain or lose. Correlate it was a perfect baseball betting odds metaphor for their season. Last year was a disappointing step back for the Minnesota Twins. Especially when considering they play in one of the weakest divisions in pro sports. The American League Central is not a power presentation, but somebody still must win it.

2025 Minnesota Twins Manager and Key Players

Major moves: Acquired C Diego Cartaya via trade from Los Angeles, Acquired C Mickey Gasper via trade from Boston, Selected SP Eiberson Castellano from Philadelphia in Rule 5 Draft.

It is slim sports betting pickings when looking at Minnesota’s transaction log. Since committing significant dollars to shortstop Carlos Correa a couple of years ago, the Twins have been a complete nonfactor in free agency. Their willingness to stretch the budget to accommodate a superstar in Correa was admirable at the time. Still, Minnesota’s reluctance to push further to complement the roster has been frustrating to watch.

Minnesota’s inactivity can at least partially be attributed to the franchise being in something of a transitional state with regard to its ownership. The Pohlad family announced in October their intentions to sell the team. Subsequently, while several intriguing potential buyers have emerged, a resolution has yet to be reached.

Manager Rocco Baldelli has been the Twins manager since 2019. Previously, he was a coach with the Tampa Bay Rays. His career record is 457-413, with three playoff appearances and AL Central Division titles.

SS Carlos Correa is the Minnesota marquee man. He is a two-time All-Star and a former Gold Glove winner. In 2023, Correa produced 60 runs, 29 doubles, 18 home runs, 65 runs batted, a .230 average and .711. Last year, he had 55 runs, 20 doubles, 14 home runs, 54 RBI, a .310 average and a .905 OPS.

RHP Jhoan Duran is the MLB odds closer for Minnesota. In 2023, Duran saved 27 games in 32 opportunities. He was 3-5 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. Last year, he was 6-9 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 23 saves.

RHP Pablo Lopez is the number one starter in the Twins rotation. In 2023, he was 11-8 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He was a 2023 AL All-Star. Last year, he was 15-10 with a 4.08 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.

2025 Minnesota Twins Team Overview

Last year, it was the Cleveland Guardians. Adding insult to injury, the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers were upstart wild-card qualifiers out of the AL Central.

Overall, in 2024, the Minnesota Twins had a record of 82-80 and were 4th in the American League Central Division. Offensively, Minnesota ranked 12th for runs scored, 13th for batting average, 11th for OPS, 13th for home runs, and 29th for stolen bases. While defensively, Minnesota ranked 20th for earned run average, 6th for WHIP, 9th for strikeouts, 11th for quality starts, 3rd for fewest errors, and 19th for bullpen ERA.

As a result of not meeting expectations, Minnesota was one of the biggest money losers on the board in 2024.

Minnesota ranks 17th for MLB payroll.
