Sunday Baseball Betting Games Nationals vs. Dodgers

April 20th, 2018 Betting on MLB Baseball

April through August of 2017 saw the Dodgers rank as one of the hottest teams in MLB history.  Profitability for baseball betting games was also at an all time high.  Regardless of price Los Angeles brought home the money.  Like a soaring stock, gamblers flocked to bet on LA.  Irrational hysteria claimed that the gravy train would never stop.  Then September came.  And the party ended.  Since then the Dodgers have been quite ordinary.  Red ink has drowned gamblers due to their consistent overlay status.  Board prices remain high.  Public cash still flows towards the Dodgers.

Nationals vs. Dodgers TV Coverage: ESPN

Dodgers

Few teams have lost more money to start the season than the Dodgers.  Stumbling out of the gate as big favorites has burned gamblers badly.  Middle of the pack metrics reveal LA is still coming back to earth.  Quality starting pitching remains a strength for Los Angeles.  Bullpen inconsistency has emerged as a concern.  Although a favorite to win the National League it has been an ugly look.  Losing the World Series to the Astros may have caused a hangover.  Run production for Los Angeles ranks 14th in MLB.  Staff ERA is 13th in the Bigs.

Nationals

Washington has also been struggling to find their way.  Like the Dodgers they are big favorites to win the NL pennant.  New manager Dave Martinez continues to learn his team.  Martinez was hired to get the Nationals to the World Series.  Previous manager Dusty Baker paid the price for his playoff failures.  Baker led the Nats to their best seasons ever.  Yet his success created demands for more.  Mediocre metrics also plague the Nationals.  MLB ranks of 13th for run production and 15th for staff ERA do not impress.  Defensively the Nats rank a subpar 17th.

Names on the Field

Right hander Jeremy Hellickson will get the start for Washington.  Left hander Alex Wood will take the hill for the Dodgers.  Hellickson has just one start so far on the season.  His career ERA is 4.12 with a WHIP of 1.25.  Wood lost both of his baseball betting games decisions so far.  In four games his ERA is 3.91 with a WHIP of 0.74.

Team vs Team

LA has dominated the sportsbook against the Nats.  Payouts have gone to the Dodgers in 13 of their last 19 in this series.  Only one of the last seven in this series has gone over the total.  Dodger Stadium has seen Los Angeles win seven of their last ten against Washington.  Eight of the last ten in this series at LA have gone under the total.

Matchup to Watch

Value is the matchup difference for baseball betting games.  Washington as a quality road team should be a bargain.  Too many overlays on the Dodgers have busted bankrolls since September.  Based on their recent play it makes no sense to back LA.  Especially with a big price against a good opponent.
