MLB gambling on Friday features Washington Nationals pitching sensation Stephen Strasburg as Washington takes on the Florida Marlins.
Strasburg is 3-2 with a 2.32 ERA this season. Strasburg continues to be favored in baseball gambling odds but the Nationals are not always winning his starts because they don’t score many runs.
MLB gambling odds on the Nationals when Strasburg has been pitching have been high. Strasburg is a great young rookie pitcher but the Nationals are still not a good team. In his last three starts, Strasburg is 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA.
The Marlins are expected to go with Ricky Nolasco on Friday. He is 9-6 on the season with a 4.55 ERA. In his last three starts he is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA. Nolasco has pitched very well in his career against the Nationals going 7-2 with a 4.37 ERA. There is a chance that Josh Johnson could go in this start but it is likely the Marlins will give him another day of rest since he was in the All-Star game.
The Marlins have won 11 of the last 20 games against Washington. The teams played two series early in the season. The Marlins won two of three at home and two of three in Washington. Four of those six games went under the total and with Strasburg going on Friday this could be a low scoring game.
The Nationals have really struggled on the road this season vs. the baseball gambling odds. Washington is just 14-29 away from home this season. The Nationals have Adam Dunn who can hit home runs but they don’t score enough runs on a regular basis as they are just 24th in the league in runs per game. Their pitching overall is not that great either although that is not a factor on Friday with Strasburg going.
The Marlins have been a disappointment for the most part this season. The main problem for Florida has been their home record which is 21-23. A losing record at home is simply unacceptable for a team with Florida’s talent. The Marlins have decent stats overall as they are just outside the top 10 in ERA and in hitting. With great players like Josh Johnson and Hanley Ramirez, the Marlins have the potential to be a lot better than just a .500 team.
