Boone, like Girardi, produces playoff seasons but no World Series titles. Last year the Yankees went through some bad periods of passive play. Of great concern to Boone is that his roster may be overrated.
Joe Girardi – Philadelphia Phillies
As mentioned earlier, Joe Girardi was a consistent winner with the New York Yankees. Upon taking over the Phillies in 2020, he has not moved the needle. Girardi has a win percentage of .495 at Philadelphia compared to .562 with the Yankees. It is true that Philadelphia thinks too much of itself. It is also true that if managers don’t meet unrealistic expectations, they are fired anyway.
Bud Black – Colorado Rockies
Specifically, Bud Black is the victim of managing a Colorado Rockies franchise that is no longer trying to win. Now Black manages a gutted roster. Also, he has been the manager of the Rockies since 2017. That combination is not good for job security.
Chris Woodward – Texas Rangers
Counter to Colorado, the Rangers try to win and invest in free agents. But Chris Woodward enters his fourth MLB odds season with a win percentage of .417. Further, he’s leading a club with a new ballpark that can’t afford to lose fans. Woodward is definitely on the hot seat. Texas has the task of trying to remain relevant in a Crowded sports market
