Baseball futures continue to feature the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. Doesn’t it seem to be that way every year in baseball betting? The Red Sox host the Twins in Spring Training action on Sunday in a game that can be seen on the MLB Network.
Baseball futures favor Boston in many of their games. The Red Sox get respect from bettors because they have an excellent team. Boston features a pitching staff led by Josh Beckett and John Lackey and a lineup led by former MVP Dustin Pedroia. The Red Sox got some good news this week about Pedroia as X-rays on his sprained left wrist were good. “He’s good,” said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. “The X-ray is fine, which we kind of thought, but [we did it] just to be careful.”
The Red Sox can’t afford to lose Pedroia if they expect to challenge the Yankees in baseball betting. “Every time you see him dive — we’ve seen him come up a number of times on that shoulder,” Francona said. “But you know what? There’s nothing you can do. You’ve got to play the game. I don’t know how else to get around it. It was a great play. You’ve just got to play the game. Again, I don’t think anybody thought there was something there, but it’s nice to hear that.” Two years ago it was Pedroia winning the American League MVP as he hit.296 with 115 runs, 48 doubles, 15 homers, 72 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He is off to a great start this spring hitting .351 (13-for-37) with one homer and eight RBIs.
Minnesota doesn’t get as much attention in baseball futures as Boston but they are considered a contender at 15-1 to win the World Series. Finding a replacement for closer Joe Nathan who is out for the year is the big key for Minnesota’s chances. It is possible that Matt Guerrier could get some chances to close. Guerrier was an excellent set-up man a year ago for the Twins. “Last year, I wasn’t even in the running to set up early on, and then because of injuries and things that went on, I kind of got forced back into the spot. To even be mentioned as a possibility to fill in for a guy like Joe, it’s crazy to think about, but exciting.” Guerrier said.
