2020 Kansas City Royals Overview
A new owner and manager will begin quite a lengthy restoration project in Kansas City. Last year the Royals were 59-103 and drowned gamblers in red ink. Also new is manager Mike Matheny, who takes over for the retired Ned Yost. Matheny is a former Major League catcher that had a very successful run as manger of the Cardinals from 2012 through 2018. While at St. Louis he became the first manger in history to lead his team to the postseason in each of his first four campaigns. Metheny led the Redbirds to the 2013 National League pennant.
Jorge Soler
To begin with, many fans would be shocked to discover that the 2019 American League home run champion was KC’s Jorge Soler. Soler led the junior circuit with 48 home runs after hitting a previous career best of 12 in 2016. Consequently, this feeds into the theory that the baseballs were juiced last year. However, that means they would have been loaded up for everyone, not just Soler. And yet there is considerable doubt that Soler can repeat his feat in 2020.
Whit Merrifield
Notwithstanding his membership on a terrible team, Whit Merrifield became a 2019 American League All-Star. To illuminate Whitfield produced 41 doubles with 16 home runs while scoring 105 runs as he hit .296.
