Braves vs. Mets in Battle for Top Spot in NL East Baseball Odds Competition

November 30th, 2010 Betting on MLB Baseball

New York, New York, the city so nice they named it twice and ground zero in the battle for the NL East as the Mets host the Braves this weekend in a baseball odds matchup that could re-shape the division standings.

For the much of the baseball betting odds season these two teams have been in a dog-fight for the top spot in the NL East and this weekend’s 3-game series might just be the most important in the MLB baseball odds this week.

Heading into the weekend the Atlanta Braves sat atop the NL East standings with a record of 50-35.  That’s the best record in the NL baseball betting odds competition and leads the NL East rival Mets by 3.0 games.  The Mets currently sit second in the NL East standings (47-38) but a sweep of this weekend series against the Braves this team could be tied for the lead in the NL East baseball odds competition.

Both of these teams are a bit of a surprise to be leading the division this late in the season as the Philadelphia Phillies (44-40) have owned the NL East baseball odds for the past half of a decade.  But Mets and Braves have done it with very good starting pitching and improved performances at the plate (both teams were awful in the hitting department last MLB odds season).

On Saturday night the Braves will trot out Tim Hudson to mound to take on New York ace Mike Pelfrey.  Both of these guys are top notch pitchers and both are off to great starts this baseball odds season.  Hudson (8-4) has an impressive 2.44 ERA, one of the best in the baseball betting odds, and hasn’t allowed more than 4 runs in any game this season and has allowed only 3 runs on average in his 4 losses this season.  Pelfrey has more wins with a very impressive 10-3 record thus far in the MLB betting season but has also enjoyed much more run support (3.39 ERA).  He’s also only lost one game at home all season, his last MLB betting start on July 5th.

New York has home field advantage but Hudson is pitching as well as almost anyone in the NL baseball betting competition at the moment and if the Braves are going to win a game in this series it’s this one.
