High Scoring Baseball Gambling Matchup as Marlins Host Phillies

February 29th, 2024 Betting on MLB Baseball

Runs could be plentiful on Friday night baseball gambling as the Florida Marlins host the Philadelphia Phillies. Both teams have good offensive lineups and the pitching matchup on Friday would seem to indicate a high scoring game is possible in MLB gambling.

Kyle Kendrick is expected to get the start for the Phillies on Friday while the Marlins counter with Chris Volstad. Kendrick is 2-2 on the year with a 5.66 ERA while Volstad is 3-5 with a 4.31 ERA. Kendrick struggled last time out against Boston as he went just 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, five runs and two walks. The Phillies have been getting good pitching for the most part this season but the one weak link has been Kendrick. Volstad has lost three in a row but he hasn’t pitched horribly. He gave up three runs in six innings last time out against the White Sox. Volstad has been pretty good at home going 2-2 this season with a 2.67 ERA.

The Marlins have actually won 11 of the last 20 games against Philadelphia. When you think about the Phillies you should realize that they are actually a better road team than a home team. Earlier this season the Phillies hosted the Marlins and Florida took two of the three Baseball Gambling games. Florida won 2-0 and 5-1 while the Phillies won 8-6. The last time the teams met in Florida it was the Marlins winning two of three in late September of last year. Two of those three games went over the total. The Phillies swept the Marlins in a July series in Florida.

The Phillies continue to be a strong road team again this season. It helps when you have Roy Halladay on your pitching staff. It also helps when you have a strong lineup that is in the top ten in the league in runs scored. Even though the Phillies can score a lot of runs they are not a team that always goes over the total.

The Marlins really don’t have a personality yet this season. They are around the .500 mark and sometimes they hit well and sometimes they pitch well. You just never know what you are going to get with the Marlins. One night they can be great and the next night they can struggle.
