Cubs & Braves Featured in MLB Betting on ESPN

MLB betting odds are nearly a pick in the ESPN afternoon game on Monday as the Atlanta Braves host the Chicago Cubs.

It is the regular season opener for both teams. The Cubs are getting some action in baseball betting in this game since Carlos Zambrano is on the mound.

MLB betting odds oftentimes favor Zambrano when he goes to the mound.  This will be the sixth Opening Day start for Zambrano.  Last season he beat the Astros 4-2 on Opening Day.  The Braves will counter with Derek Lowe on Monday.  Last season was not a good one for Zambrano or the Cubs.  Zambrano is said to be in better shape this season and he could be poised for a big year.

Derek Lowe did not have a good year in Atlanta a year ago.  He was terrible in this last nine starts as he had a 6.65 ERA.  He spent the off-season making some changes in his delivery and he looked good in the spring. This will be his fourth Opening Day start in the last five years in MLB betting.  A year ago he held the Phillies to two hits in eight shutout innings on Opening Day.

The Cubs have beaten the Braves in 12 of the last 20 games.  Last season it was the Braves who won four of the six games.  What was also interesting in MLB betting in those matchups is that five of the six went under the total.

The Cubs were 37-44 on the road a year ago in MLB betting.  Chicago was solid in pitching as they had an ERA that ranked 5th in the league.  Scoring runs was a problem though as they were 21st in the league.  Chicago is hoping that they can avoid injuries as they really need Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee to stay healthy.

Atlanta last season was a better team on the road than at home.  At home they were just 40-41 vs. the baseball betting line. A lot more is expected this season from the Braves.  It is the final year for manager Bobby Cox and Atlanta will want to start the year off with a win.  The Braves have the potential to do some damage in the National League this season with an excellent starting rotation and a lineup that should be improved with the addition of rookie Jason Heyward.
