Close Baseball Odds on Friday between Yanks & Rays

Baseball odds on Friday are very close between two American League East rivals as the Tampa Bay Rays host the New York Yankees.

It is an excellent pitching matchup in baseball lines on Friday as Javier Vazquez gets the call for New York while Tampa Bay sends David Price to the mound.

Baseball odds usually favor the Yankees even when they are on the road and that will probably be the case in this game. Tampa Bay should not be underestimated though.  Price is a very good young pitcher and the Rays have a powerful offense. They will get a good test here though as Vazquez gets his first start for New York. He was 15-10 with a 2.87 in the National League last season.  Price was 10-7 with a 4.42 ERA in 23 starts last season but if you look closely you will see he got better as the season progressed.  In his last 12 starts he was 7-3 record with a 3.58 ERA. He is 8-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 13 career appearances at Tropicana Field. Against New York he is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in four career appearances.

The Yankees have won 13 of the last 20 games against Tampa Bay in baseball odds.  The Rays did win the last series in Tampa against the Yankees a year ago though. They won 5-3 and 13-4 while losing 10-2. New York won two of three in both of the other two series in Tampa last season.  The Rays are still listed behind both New York and Boston in the American League East but many people believe they can challenge for a Wild Card spot.

Tampa Bay is really focusing on this season because Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena are in the final year of their contracts and that makes them a threat vs. the baseball lines.  Tampa Bay owner Stu Sternberg said that he would like to win this season with the current group of players. “You like to win with the players we have. This group, this core group, has been together now for three or four seasons.” Sternberg said, “And it would be nice to see this group jell again. We've had some additions -- some guys last year new to the mix, some guys this year new to the mix -- and you'd like to see them all put it together.”
