Many of the gamblers who are betting Major League Baseball on Sunday night are likely to go with the Philadelphia Phillies since Roy Halladay is expected to be on the mound.
The Phillies are the better team than the Cubs anyway and with Halladay on the mound they will get the bulk of the action in MLB props and futures in this game that can be seen on ESPN.
Betting Major League Baseball with the Phillies when Halladay is pitching is popular but not always profitable. Halladay has some great numbers but the Phillies don’t always score a ton of runs when he is on the mound. Halladay is 10-7 this season with a 2.19 ERA. That is the third best ERA in the league. In his last three starts his ERA is 1.73 but he is just 1-1. In the past ten seasons against the Cubs he is 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA.
The Cubs are expected to go with Tom Gorzelanny on Sunday night. He is 4-5 on the season with a 3.16 ERA. He has pitched well of late going 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his last three starts. He is 1-1 in his career against the Phillies with a 3.86 ERA.
The Phillies had won 12 of the last 20 against the Cubs before this series began. The Phillies begin the second half within striking range of the Braves in the National League East but they need to start hitting a little better. With a pitcher like Halladay on the mound they should win nearly every time he makes a start but that has not happened.
The Cubs may not have said so yet, but they are playing for next year. They are well back of the Reds and Cardinals in the National League Central. Chicago even has a losing record at Wrigley Field this season. Losing at home is a bad sign when you consider betting Major League baseball teams and the Cubs can’t even boast a winning record on their home field. Chicago has a lineup that has not produced enough runs and their pitching staff has problems. One of the few bright spots has been pitcher Carlos Silva but also a bright spot has been Gorzelanny. He has gone under the radar for the most part but he has very nice ERA for the season. He will need to pitch well for the Cubs to have a chance in this game.
