Baseball Odds Today: Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers 4/6/2019

Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Starting with the leadership of Joe Maddon have the Chicago Cubs enjoyed their most successful era ever.  Long time Cubs fans and observers would never imagine four straight playoff berths.  And the World Series championship of 2016 was considered an impossible dream for generations prior. Once again, the Cubs are a top baseball odds today pick as one of the premier contenders in the National League.  Alternatively, one of the teams that could derail the Cubs are the Milwaukee Brewers.  Manager and local hero Craic Counsell led the Brewers to the National League Central title in 2018.

Milwaukee Brewers

At the beginning of Milwaukee’s success is Christian Yelich. Yelich become an All Star for the first time in 2018 after rather average numbers as a Miami Marlin.  In fact, Yelich was so outstanding that he was named National League Most Valuable Player.  Yelich hit a career high .326 last year with 36 home runs, 34 doubles, and 110 runs batted in.  Never had he come close to putting up such numbers in his five previous seasons at Miami.

The Pitching Mound

Now the probable starting pitchers for this one are Cole Hamels and Corbin Burnes.  Chicago left hander Hamels had an up and down season last year after arriving from the Texas Rangers.  To show Hamels posted a record of 9-12 with a 3.78 earned run average with both teams.  However, with the Cubs Hamels was 4-3 with a 2.36 ERA.  At the age of 36 Hamels is not the workhorse starter of his past days with the Phillies.  But, by all accounts, he is still a serviceable starter that brings value.

Corbin Burnes

By contrast Milwaukee right hander Corbin Burnes is only 24 years old.  As a rookie last year Burnes burst on to the scene with a 7-0 record and 2.61 earned run average.  Further impressing fans and gamblers was a WHIP of 1.00 in 2018.  Increasingly there is an attitude of Burnes having to prove himself over the long haul.  Many past pitchers have had great career starts only to eventually get figured out.  Thus, the jury is still out on Burnes for baseball odds today.

Team vs. Team

Head to head Milwaukee has won eight of their last 11 sports betting matchups against the Cubs.  Eight of those 11 games went under the total.  Additionally, the Cubs have struggled at Miller Park.  Milwaukee has paid in four of their last five home games against the Cubs.  Under the total has hit in 13 of the last 17 between these teams at Miller Park.

Matchup to Watch

In this situation Milwaukee will bring potentially better baseball odds today value as the road team.  Furthermore, the public loves to load up on the Cubs at Wrigley Field.  Of major concern is a Cubs bullpen that stumbled out of the gate to rank 27th in MLB for earned run average.
