Baseball Odds: Giants vs. Cardinals

August 8, 2012 MLB Baseball

In the shadow of the arch, San Francisco will attempt to cast its own “Giant” image as they meet in game two of this four game series versus the St. Louis Cardinals. The first pitch of tonight’s contest is scheduled to be thrown at 8:15ET.

Except for the Detroit Tigers, the Cardinals have been the hottest team at home for the past month of the season. St. Louis is 12-1 in its last thirteen games played at Busch Stadium. They have posted a .316 team batting average in that span and are averaging 6 runs a game of offense. Start your MLB Wagering action on Giants vs. Cardinals game.

The success at home continued last night in the Cards 8-2 victory. It looked like it might be a long night for St. Louis and their starter Jake Westbrook when Angel Pagan hit the second pitch of the game for a home run. But Westbrook maintained his composure and ultimately went six innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and registering 4 strikeouts for his eleventh win of the year.

Jon Jay was a perfect 4-4, with 2 RBIs and a run scored in this one. Carlos Beltran hit his 26th home run adding to his RBI total of 78. Four Giants, including Pagan, had 2 hits apiece accounting for all 8 by San Francisco. Matt Cain had a rough outing on the mound for San Fran, giving up 5 runs in five and two thirds innings.

San Francisco (59-50) maintains a half game lead over the Dodgers in the NL West, who also lost last night. They are 4-6 in their last 10 and dropped to an even .500 (27-27) when playing away from McCovey Cove.

St. Louis (60-49) remains in third place of the NL Central 2.5 games behind the second place Pirates. They have won 7 of their last 10 and as previously mentioned play well at home posting an overall mark of 33-21. Check the Baseball Lines for Giants vs. Cardinals game.

Lefty, Barry Zito (8-8, 4.27 ERA) will pitch for the Giants tonight, while righthander, Lance Lynn (13-4, 3.40 ERA) goes for the Cardinals.

St. Louis is a prohibitive home favorite tonight at -$185, while San Francisco is a +$175. The over/under of 8.5 total runs is on a $115/$100 moneyline.
