The only thing more difficult to figure out than Kentucky Derby betting odds are race horses’ names. I remember when I used to tend bar at the Legitimate Businessman's Social Club. One day, Fat Tony asks me to pick a horse for the third race. I didn’t know anything about horse racing, so I says to the guy, I says to him to “eat my shorts.” You know what he said? He said Eat My Shorts was in the fifth race. Still, some people go solely by name when placing a wager.
Kentucky Derby betting favorite Nyquist has a tough act to follow in Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, and that may or may not be affecting his odds. Las Vegas projections have him opening at no better than 3-1 odds, in spite of the generally run-of-the-mill caliber of his competitors.

We had already taken a brief look into the early Kentucky Derby favorites, after time progressed, and we approach race time, we take another updated look into the contenders. A couple of things have happened since we last touched on how ‘the most exciting two minutes in sports’ are shaping up for the 2016 edition. Are new horses to be considered to take the race or are the early favorites still atop of the odds?
Kentucky Derby betting fans are scouting prospects, and for the 2016 edition the two horses that are being considered by experts as favorites are Nyquist and Mohaymen. The official odds have not yet been posted, but judging from recent performances and history, these 3-year-old colts are will be meet at the track as the absolute favorites. Nyquist, with its recent success might be edging it out as the top horse to beat, but Mohaymen will be a tough competitor. We might have a dramatic race in our hands come the first Saturday of May.
