Kentucky Derby Betting Online – First Look at the Possible Field

All of the prep races are in the books so we have our first idea of the probable Kentucky Derby betting online field.

The Nick Zito trained Dialed In is likely to be the favorite in Kentucky Derby betting but he will not be a heavy favorite at SBG.

Dialed In
The horse won the Florida Derby but the field was weak and that makes his credentials as a Kentucky Derby favorite very questionable.  Right now he is the best of the bunch and the early choice in Kentucky Derby betting.  Last year the favorite in the Kentucky Derby was Looking at Lucky and he went off at 6-1. There is a very good chance that Dialed In will have odds higher than 6-1.

Uncle Mo and The Factor
These two horses were supposed to be the two favorites in the Kentucky Derby but Uncle Mo finished third in the Wood Memorial and is no guarantee to even be in the field.  He is recovering from a gastrointestinal infection and is supposed to train this week at Churchill Downs where his status will be determined.  The Factor was terrible in the Arkansas Derby and there is no guarantee he will run either.  Three other Derby contenders are also dealing with health issues. To Honor and Serve, Premier Pegasus and Jaycito are unlikely to go.

Other Possible Contenders
Mucho Macho Man is #2 in the AP poll but winning the Risen Star doesn’t really tell us much.  Toby’s Corner won the Wood but not many people have any confidence in this horse either. Archarcharch was the Arkansas Derby winner but again, so what.  Trainer Bob Baffert will have two probable starters in The Factor and Midnight Interlude.  Todd Pletcher will have Stay Thirsty and maybe Uncle Mo. Also keep an eye on Nehro and Soldat as both horses could get some action in the Kentucky Derby.

Derby Preps Overrated
One thing we do know is that Derby prep races are overrated.  Since 1991 there have only been six horses that won their final prep race and then won in Kentucky Derby betting online.  Two of those horses came off wins in the Florida Derby so perhaps that is a good sign for Dialed In.
