Kentucky Derby odds for the 135th Kentucky Derby on Saturday are very wide open this year with a number of horses that have a realistic chance to win. Let’s look at this year’s horses in KD betting.
KD odds are likely to favor I Want Revenge on Saturday. He was superb in winning the Gotham and the Wood and has a hot young superstar jockey in Joe Talamo. Pioneerof the Nile has a great pedigree and a Hall of Fame trainer in Bob Baffert. He could win in Kentucky Derby betting if he takes to dirt. Friesan Fire could go off as the third choice in KD odds. His trainer Larry Jones has finished second in Kentucky Derby betting the last two years. The only question is the 7-week layoff that Friesan Fire has had but recently the trends have been broken, especially recently.
Dunkirk might end up being the third or fourth choice in KD odds. He was second to Quality Road in the Florida Derby. The drawback against Dunkirk in Kentucky Derby odds is that no horse has won the Derby without racing as a 2-year old since Apollo in 1882. If you want a closer in Kentucky Derby odds you might want to go with Chocolate Candy. He has Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith and if he takes to the dirt he could spring the upset in KD odds.

Musket Man has won five of six but is not bred for distance while Papa Clem won the Arkansas Derby and might get a little attention in Kentucky Derby odds. General Quarters has 75-year old trainer Tom McCarthy who is in his first KD and he will get support in Kentucky Derby odds simply for that factor alone. Flying Private has D. Wayne Lukas as trainer and not much else but people love to bet on a Lukas horse regardless of whether the horse can win. The rest of the Kentucky Derby field is likely to go off at Kentucky Derby odds of more than 20-1 although in this field anything could happen.
