Kentucky Derby Odds Feature Pletcher Horses

Kentucky Derby odds will feature a lot of horses trained by Todd Pletcher.

His top horse is Eskendereya who will be the favorite in Kentucky Derby betting and he could have as many as six horses in the race.

Kentucky Derby odds list Eskendereya as the top choice with a number of Pletcher’s other horses in the mix.  Eskendereya worked on Saturday, going five furlongs in 1:02. “It rained here (Friday) night and the track was about a second slower than usual,” Pletcher said. “I was very pleased with the way he and all of our other horses worked.”  Pletcher also has Louisiana Derby winner Mission Impazible who worked in 1:02.25 and stakes winner Rule who went five furlongs in 1:02.65.  “Mission Impazible is an improving horse, and he went very well,” Pletcher said, “Rule wasn’t as sharp, but that’s how he breezes.”  Two of Pletcher’s other horses actually had faster times. Discreetly Mine worked in 1:01.95 while Kentucky Oaks contender, Devil May Care ran the five furlongs in 1:01.05.  Pletcher will be sending his horses to Churchill Downs on Tuesday.

Pletcher has two other horses that could run in Kentucky Derby betting.  Super Saver won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs last fall but he hasn’t won in two starts at age three. He will have last year’s Derby-winning jockey Calvin Borel in the irons. Interactif won the With Anticipation at Saratoga and the Bourbon at Keeneland last year and finished second in the San Felipe.  Pletcher has said that Interactif will have to work great at Churchill Downs to be entered in the Derby.

While Pletcher’s horses are getting a lot of attention in Kentucky Derby odds, the workout turned in by Santa Anita Derby winner Sidney’s Candy has turned some heads. The horse worked five furlongs in 59 4/5 seconds.
“It gave me some goose bumps,” said Larry Benavidez, assistant to trainer John Sadler.

Also working out was Derby horse Dean’s Kitten for trainer Mike Maker.  He worked alongside Age of Humor who may run in the Kentucky Oaks. “They’re a pretty good match,” said Maker, “Today was supposed to be Age of Humor’s good work, and Dean’s Kitten, he’s not that great of a work horse. He needed to do a little something today, so that’s why we did it. Everything was great.”  Endorsement, who will be listed at double-digit Kentucky Derby odds worked at Keeneland under Shannon Ritter.
