Kentucky Derby Betting – Rookies Can Win the Race

Kentucky Derby Betting – Rookies Can Win the Race. Just because you are a newcomer doesn’t mean you can’t win in Kentucky Derby betting. History has shown that trainers and jockeys can win as rookies in the Kentucky Derby.  Who are this year’s rookies who can make a mark in Kentucky Derby wagering

In the past 11 years there have been seven trainers who have won the Kentucky Derby in their first try.  Neil Drysdale had a beast of a horse in 2000 with Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000 while John Servis had the talented Smarty Jones who won in 2004. Other trainers have had some shockers like Giacomo who won for John Shirreffs in 2005 and Mine that Bird who took the Derby in 2009 for trainer Chip Woolley.  Drysdale, Servis and Woolley have not had another Kentucky Derby starter since winning the Run for the Roses and it is unlikely we will ever see Woolley or Servis in the Derby again.
