Kentucky Derby Betting – Longshots Working Well. Three interesting longshots in Kentucky Derby betting had excellent workouts this past week. Shackleford is listed at 16-1 in Kentucky Derby odds at SBG, Animal Kingdom is 26-1 and Comma to the Top is 30-1. All three horses had excellent workouts last week as they prepare for the Kentucky Derby.
Shackleford 16-1
This horse was the runner-up in the Florida Derby and he is starting to get some attention in Kentucky Derby wagering. He had a superb work last week as he went five furlongs in 58.83. It was the fastest work of the morning among the Derby contenders. The horse also galloped out very well as he completed the six furlongs in 1:12.58. The question is whether or not Shackleford can go 10 furlongs at a speed fast enough to win the Derby.
Animal Kingdom 26-1
The question about Animal Kingdom is whether or not he would like the dirt. If his workout from last week is any indication, the answer is yes. With jockey Robby Albarado in the irons, Animal Kingdom had a great work. Trainer Graham Motion said that Animal Kingdom handled the dirt very well and that he is confident the horse will do well in the Derby.
Comma to the Top 30-1
It was thought that Comma to the Top might not be much more than a pacesetter in Kentucky Derby wagering but after his recent workout he might just be a contender. He went five furlongs in 1:00.40 at Hollywood Park for trainer Peter Miller. Jockey Patrick Valenzuela was aboard and was very pleased with the work. Comma to the Top is likely to go to the lead in the Kentucky Derby and there is always the chance he might just stay there. The horse finished second in the Santa Anita Derby in this last start. He has six wins in 13 career starts. He was ridden by Corey Nakatani last time out but with Nakatani riding Nehro, Valenzuela will get the mount.
