Jockey Joe Talamo Kentucky Derby Odds at SBG Global

Kentucky Derby odds are likely to favor I Want Revenge and his 19-year-old jockey, Joe Talamo.

The brash young rider is in his first Kentucky Derby after only 2.5 years of racing and he is on the likely favorite in Kentucky Derby betting.

Kentucky Derby odds show that I Want Revenge is likely to be a slight favorite in the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.  If I Want Revenge wins in Kentucky Derby odds he will be doing it with a young jockey and history tells us that rarely does a youngster win in Kentucky Derby odds.

Joe Talamo is trying to do something that is rarely done in Kentucky Derby betting.  Steve Cauthen was 18 years old when he won the Triple Crown with Affirmed in 1978 while Ronnie Franklin was 19 years old when he won in Kentucky Derby odds with Spectacular Bid in 1979.  Most of the time in Kentucky Derby betting, the young jockeys don’t win and oftentimes they don’t even get a mount.  But Talamo is not an average teenage jockey.  He is already considered one of the best jockeys in the world. "He’s running races like he’s been riding for a decade," Gary Stevens said. "That poise, the patience. He’s just way beyond his years."

I Want Revenge was able to win the Wood Memorial with Talamo after breaking last.  Talamo didn’t panic and put his horse in a position to win that race. "He kept a cool head and he bided his time," trainer Jeff Mullins said. "He knew how much horse he had under him." I Want Revenge also has last year’s winning co-owner Michael Iavarone, who saw Big Brown win in Kentucky Derby odds.  Iavarone knows that age means nothing when it comes to Kentucky Derby odds. "I think (age) 19 or 46, when they get in the starting gate it’s an equal playing field. They talk about experience and everything else, but I don’t know what this kid is going to see on Saturday that he hasn’t seen already with this horse."

Kentucky Derby odds are likely to see I Want Revenge go off around 3-1 or 4-1.  The Kentucky Derby odds are going to be a little bit lower since one of the Kentucky Derby betting favorites, Quality Road was scratched.  Can three straight favorites win in Kentucky Derby odds?  If it is up to Joe Talamo then it will be three straight favorites winning in Kentucky Derby odds.
