Early 2010 Kentucky Odds

Kentucky Derby odds in advance of the 136th Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 1st list Eskendereya as the early favorite.

The Todd Pletcher trained horse is expected to go off at 2-1 or less but with a few weeks before the big race he can be found at 3-1 in Kentucky Derby betting.

Kentucky Derby odds in the weeks before the big race are volatile as horses can get hurt or not make the field.  That should not happen with Eskendereya but you never know. Last year I Want Revenge was the favorite before the Derby but he got hurt and has not raced since.  Eskendereya is trained by Todd Pletcher who is 0 of 24 in the Kentucky Derby.  Pletcher is a great trainer though and he is overdue to win the big race.  Never before has Pletcher had a horse in the Derby with this much talent or with the pedigree. Eskendereya simply has it all and is the early favorite in Kentucky Derby betting. "I don’t think we should look at any trainer and judge him by what’s happened in the Kentucky Derby," said Awesome Act trainer Jeremy Noseda, “I remember I was lucky enough to meet (Hall of Famer) Charlie Whittingham and … it took him long enough to win it, didn’t it? You know, you need the element of luck."

Eskendereya has the perfect style to win the Kentucky Derby and he has a great pedigree.  He won the Wood Memorial so easily that even his trainer was impressed. "There was more there than what we saw, even as impressive as it was," trainer Todd Pletcher said.

Early Kentucky Derby odds list Lookin at Lucky as the second choice at 6-1.  He got a horrible trip in the Santa Anita Derby and that is the only reason his odds are not 4-1. He is trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert.  Garrett Gomez is the rider for Lookin at Lucky and even though he gave the horse a terrible ride in the Santa Anita Derby he will still get the mount in the Kentucky Derby.

Sidney’s Candy was the winner of the Santa Anita Derby and he is a contender in Kentucky Derby odds at 6-1. Other horses worth looking at in Kentucky Derby odds are Endorsement at 10-1, Ice Box at 12-1, Awesome Act, American Lion and Nobles Promise at 14-1.
