Belmont Stakes Set for June 20!

COVID-19 may have delayed the great American sporting events. But it has not canceled them completely. The Masters’ Tournament and Kentucky Derby will take place in the fall. Most important of all is the fact that they were not canceled. That calls attention for horse racing odds to the Belmont Stakes. Normally it is the longest and final Triple Crown Series horse race of the year. This year it will be the first of the three Triple Crown runs. For 2020 the Belmont Stakes will be shortened from a mile and a half to a mile and one eighth.

2020 Belmont Stakes Overview

Known as “The Test of the Champion” the Belmont Stakes draws massive sports betting handle. That is especially the case when a horse is running for a win to clinch the Triple Crown. For this year that is not going to be a factor. Instead of being the last leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont will go first. Thus, the race will have very different handicapping dynamics. Gamblers have a good familiarity with many of the horses at the Belmont Stakes. Cause by the Kentucky Derby and Preakness having already been run.

Starting with the wild card element of the unknown will be a completely different 2020 Belmont Stakes. None of the horses will be well known to casual gamblers. Nor will there be a heavily hyped favorite going for Triple Crown glory. Sharps may think that this gives them an advantage. However much of the horse racing schedule has been thrown off course this year. Which makes this year’s Belmont Stakes an ultimate handicapping test.

2020 Belmont Stakes Top Contenders

Tiz the Law

Accordingly, Tiz the Law will be a top Belmont Stakes favorite with the Horse racing Odds. Consider the strong record of this three-year-old colt. Tiz the Law has won two straight races and four of his last five. Most recently was a Grade 1 win at the Florida Derby on March 28. Tiz the Law has another Grade 1 win at the Champagne last October.

Charlatan

Bob Baffert trained Charlatan will garner plenty of wagering action. Namely, Baffert himself is a major reason as to why. Baffert was inducted into the Hall of Fame 11 years ago and has won everything there is to win. Including two Triple Crowns (2015 and 2018). Charlatan is coming off a May 2 win at the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. So far, this three-year-old colt has won all three of his starts.

Basin

Steve Asmussen is another top tier trainer with considerable cache among gamblers. Asmussen is a Hall of Famer as well (inducted in 2016). Additionally, he has won at the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. The Kentucky Derby is the one item missing on his resume. The second place to Charlatan was what Basin finished in his last race at the Arkansas Derby. The three-year-old colt is best known for winning the Grade 1 Hopeful last September.

Gouverneur Morris

In view of Todd Pletcher’s training, Gouverneur Morris is betting action likely to follow. This three-year-old colt is coming off a third-place finish at the Arkansas Derby.
