The Masters Betting: Watch Out For McIlroy at SBG Global

July 18th, 2024 Golf Betting

The Masters betting lines makers generally don’t pay much mind to young golfing upstarts. After all the Masters event is a tournament steeped in tradition and many other old things, not something that plays well for young players looking to capture the Masters title for the first time. But this year, there is a teenager from Northern Ireland that is making waves in the golfing world and he very well could re-write the Masters golf betting history books.

The Masters betting is one of the great events in all of golf. And since golf is a game often associated with old people and tradition, when a young man bursts on the scene he tends to make an impression. That has certainly been the case for Rory McIlroy who has turned the PGA Tour on its head in the run up to the Masters betting and event. The Masters golf betting handicappers generally pay little mind to teenagers and winners of the PGA events early in the year, but with McIlroy playing some of the best golf on Tour this year, the Masters gurus have no choice but to take notice of the precocious 19-year old.

McIlroy is hardly a household name and has never even participated in the Masters event before. In fact, he’s never even played at Augusta, which is no doubt a bit of a hindrance to his chances of claiming the Masters title this season. But if he handles the new experience as he’s handled the other firsts in his young career, the Masters golf betting title doesn’t seem like such a crazy thing.

After all, McIlroy is coming off his first win on the PGA tour at Dubai and he’s only going to get better in the run up to the Masters betting classic. The field at Dubai was no slouch either as he defeated many of the same top players he’ll be facing at the Masters betting competition. But he can count himself among the favorites at the Masters as his Dubai win catapulted him into the 16th spot in the world rankings and gave notice the Masters public that he’s not to be taken for granted.

McIlroy earned an automatic bid to the Masters event with a third place finish at the South African Open last fall. And he’s only gotten better since then, as he looks to peak just in time for the Masters competition. He started off 2009 with a second place finish at the Hong Kong Open and then followed it up with the Dubai victory.

With or without Tiger Woods in the Masters field, you have to like the kid’s chances.
