Phil Mickelson is the favorite in PGA Championship betting this week. He is the 13-1 favorite while Tiger Woods is surprisingly the second choice. What is surprising is that Woods is even among the top 10 favorites in PGA Championship odds. Woods is playing the worst golf of his career and has very little chance to win golf’s last major of the season.
PGA Championship betting lists Mickelson and Woods as the first two choices followed by Rory McIlroy. He is 17-1 and is followed by Padraig Harrington at 20-1. Steve Stricker is 23-1 while Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen are 25-1. Last week’s winner Hunter Mahan is getting some action as he has dropped to 30-1.
The PGA may be more wide open than it has been in many years. Tiger is not likely to win and Mickelson is up and down. There is no question that Mickelson could put it all together and win the PGA but he could just as easily fall apart like he did last week at the Bridgestone. The last two majors have been won by first-time winners as Graeme McDowell won the U.S. Open while Louis Oosthuizen won the British Open. Steve Stricker has never won a major and he could be due. Paul Casey has been in the mix this year and perhaps the PGA will be his tournament. He is 35-1 in PGA Championship odds. Justin Rose is another player who could win his first major this week and he is also 35-1. Young players like Luke Donald or Sean O’Hair could be in the mix this week and they are each 35-1. Dustin Johnson nearly won the U.S. Open and his game fits Whistling Straits well. He is 40-1.
Do you get the idea that almost anyone could win this week in PGA Championship betting? Matt Kuchar is in the top ten in the Ryder Cup standings and he could win. Kuchar has some value this week and no player has been more consistent. He has four top-10 finishes in his last six starts and he is number one in the PGA all-around ranking. He is 50-1 this week. KJ Choi is 70-1 and it would not be a shock to see him have a chance at the victory this week.
