Mickelson on the Open Championship Odds at SBG Global

November 30th, 2010 Golf Betting

On Phil Mickelson’s tombstone it will likely say something like: great golfer, but never won the Open Championship odds.

There is no doubt that Mickelson is a great golfer, but for some reason he has never been able to put it all together in the Open Championship betting odds competition. As the Open Championship odds competition fast approaches this year, many of the Open Championship betting odds fans are wondering could this finally be the year for Phil?

There are many factors that go into winning and losing the Open Championship odds and for Phil much of the losing has had to with a man named Tiger Woods. Over the past 11 years Woods has won the Open Championship odds battle three times. Mickelson has won the Open Championship betting odds battle exactly zero times over that same span.  But more than Woods playing great, much of the poor finishing in the Open Championship odds on Mickelson part must be placed squarely on the golfer himself.  His best finish in the Open Championship odds was s third place in the 2004 contest.

But there should be little doubt that Mickelson enters the Open Championship betting odds this year with more confidence than he’s likely had in a long time. Although, he’s played terribly in the first two Majors of the year, he will enter the Open Championship odds competition this year knowing that Woods will not be able to chase him down on Sunday afternoon. With no real favorite to emerge so far from the Open Championship odds crowd, Mickelson can’t help but think that is his year.

It’s seems strange that Phil hasn’t come out on top yet in the Open Championship betting odds. His magical short-game seems tailor-made for the links style courses in the Open Championship odds courses, but for some reason it hasn’t come together for him. And while there are many handicappers of the Open Championship odds that don’t see him taking the title this year, there were also plenty of nay-sayers before Mickelson won his first Major in 2004 and went on two win two more in the next two years.

Phil is certainly capable of winning the Open Championship odds and without Tiger there to stop him he’ll have an even better chance than usual.
