Matt Kuchar is the golf betting odds favorite to win the 2017 Valero Texas Open starting on April 20th at the TPC San Antonio in the Cibolo Canyons area north of San Antonio, Texas. Here are the odds for fans who bet on golf at SBG sportsbook.
Golf Betting Odds on Matt Kuchar +1650
Kuch was the 2001 runner-up along with JJ Henry – when the tournament was known as Texas Open at La Cantera, right after going by Westin Texas Open at La Cantera and just before switching to Valero Texas Open. Kuchar is coming off his second best finish at the Masters, tying for 4th place at Augusta, which he followed up with a tie for 11th at the RBC Heritage. Kuchar hasn’t won a tournament since the 2015 Fiji International.
Brooks Koepka +1850
Koepka also had his best Masters finish, tying for 11th – which together with a T9 place at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play might seem to suggest that Koepka is ready for his first win since the 2016 Dunlop Phoenix Tournament after missing the cut in three of his last four events.
Jimmy Walker +1850
Jimmy ‘Ernest’ Walker beat none other than current World No. 5 Jordan Spieth to win the 2015 Texas Open. And only four months later he went on to defeat current No. 3 Jason Day at the PGA Championship. Now, one of these things is not like the others.
Charley Hoffman +2250
Winning the previous year does not make one a golf betting favorite to win this year, as fans who bet on golf – and Jimmy Walker – are well aware of. In fact, only eight men have won the VTO in its many incarnations more than once since 1922, and only Arnold Palmer and Justin Leonard have won it back-to-back. Hoffman bested Patrick Reed by a single stroke in 2016 in what was his last PGA win so far. He came close in the AIP but finished in the top 20s in Houston and at the Masters, and missed the cut at the Heritage.
Branden Grace +2250
It’s been a year and a day since the South African golfer’s first and only PGA Tour win, as Grace failed to retain his RBC Heritage title. However, he has been steadily finishing higher – tied for 39th at the Match Play, tied for 27th in Augusta, and tied for 11th at the selfsame RBC Heritage. And indeed Grace does seem to be at his best in and around the period between the Masters and the US Open.
Brendan Steele +2550
Brendan ‘Remington’ Steele is another former Texas Open winner, defeating Kevin Chappell and the aforementioned Hoffman by one stroke in 2011. Steele debuted in Augusta with a T27th finish. His last PGA Tour win and second overall was at the 2016 Safeway Open.
Adam Hadwin +2850
Hadwin had won his first career PGA Tour tournament at the Valspar Championship on 12 March 2017 as well as finished 6th at the AIP going into the Masters, but placed T36th in Augusta and then in South Carolina. On the plus side, the former was his Masters debut and he was the only Canadian to make the cut. So it might be safe to say that his golf betting stock might be on the rise.
