Golf Odds Preview of the Northern Trust Open at SBG Global

November 30th, 2010 Golf Betting

Golf odds makers have yet to do many heavy mental calculations in terms of setting golf betting odds for the early season PGA events.

However, with meatier events on the way, including the Northern Trust Open (February 19-22) their golf odds work is getting progressively more difficult and that means more golf odds betting opportunities for fans.  By mid-February the golf odds competition will begin shaping up and players and fans focus will start shifting toward the Majors.

Golf odds on the Northern Trust event stand out among the early season tournaments as perhaps the biggest golf betting odds event up to that point in the season.  The Pebble Beach event is huge, of course, but is more like a carnival than a serious PGA golf odds event.  You can be sure that when the Northern Trust Open gets underway it will be all business among the game’s elite and golf odds fans should expect a very high level of play with the best of the best rising to the golf betting odds occasion.

Held in Pacific Palisades, CA at the Riviera Country Club, this is a premier PGA golf odds event, despite falling so early on the calendar.  It’s also part of five week swing on the PGA golf calendar that features four stops in California, no doubt a big advantage for California based players like Phil Mickelson.  And Mickelson could very well be the man to beat this year in the golf betting odds competition.  With world number one Tiger Woods not expected back until the Masters at the earliest, Mickelson remains the best player in the PGA golf odds.

He’s also the defending champ at the Northern Trust Open after winning the golf odds event for the first time in 2008.  Obviously he’s more than capable of repeating but there will be plenty of competition out there competing for the $6.2 million purse, one of the largest for non-Major golf odds event on tour.  All the top players on tour will be at this event and looking to take home not only the cash but send a warning signal to other top golf odds competitors in the run-up to the Masters.   Ernie Els has looked strong early on this golf odds season and should also be in the hunt.  And of course the young guns on tour like Adam Scott, Anthony Kim and others are looking to pick up where they left off last golf odds season.

The Riviera course can be punishing with an over abundance of bunkers and uneven ground, it’s hard to come back if you fall behind early in the golf odds competition.  Look for the players who get off to hot start here to well in the final golf odds competition.
