Golf Odds Preview for Mayakoba Golf Classic at SBG Global

November 30th, 2010 Golf Betting

Golf odds bettors will likely be focused on the WGC match play event going on in Arizona during the March 1st weekend.

But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any other top golf betting odds events going on at the same time.  The Mayakoba Golf Classic runs concurrent with the WCG event (Feb. 26-Mar. 1) and in some aspects is the superior golf odds event.

At first glance the WCG golf betting odds seem to be the more important and they are certainly much more glamorous than the Mayakoba event, but that doesn’t mean that’s where the golf odds fans’ focus should be.  Although the top 64 players in the world will at the WGC event the remaining top golf odds golfers in the world will be in Cancun playing in the Mayakuba golf odds event, which is quickly becoming one of the top alternate golf betting odds events on tour.

First held in 2007, the idea for this golf odds event was a no-brainer.  With the top 64 players getting an invite to the WCG event to vie for an enormous golf odds purse, that left dozens of top PGA players without a golf odds event to attend. So why not put together and event in a tropical beach paradise offer up a $3.5 million purse?  It’s not difficult to see why this golf odds tournament has become so popular with players and golf betting odds fans.

Held at the El Camaleon Golf Club, not an especially difficult –but awfully scenic- course, the scores are low and the temperatures are high as the best of the rest of the PGA odds field spend a working holiday south of the border.  But golf odds fans shouldn’t expect a half-hearted effort from the golf odds entrants.  With a $630,000 first prize purse there is a lot more at stake than just the golf odds.  In addition, the points at the richest tournament in Mexico also count toward the FedEx Cup, however, like all the other alternate golf odds events, their only worth half.

Last year little known American golfer Brian Gay set the course on fire, setting a tournament record (-16) on his way to claiming the golf odds win.  The year before, at the inaugural event, Fred Funk collecting the winners checks and golf odds victory.  It’s hard to know who will be the 2009 golf odds champ, considering the field is still up in the air, but you can be sure that this will be a highly entertaining event.
