2023 The Honda Classic Overview

Founded in 1972, The Honda Classic began as Jackie Gleason’s Inveraray Classic. Since 1982, Honda has been the title sponsor. At the beginning, the Gleason sports betting event replaced the National Airlines Open Invitational. It was one of the richest events on tour at that time. In fact, the winner was paid more than double what the Masters Tournament paid.

Since 2007, it has been played at the Champion Course. Most important of all, the venue move to PGA National Resort facilitated a much better field lineup. The great Jack Nicklaus is the only player to win this event in consecutive years. Recent winners include Matt Jones, Im Sung-jae, Keith Mitchell, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, and Padraig Harrington.
