2022 Honda Classic Betting Odds & Picks (February 24-27, 2022)

Last week Matt Jones was the latest winner with the Golf betting lines at The Genesis Invitational. Jones was the 12th different winner in the past 12 PGA tournaments. Only Hideki Matsuyama has been able to post two wins this season. Now the PGA Tour heads from the west to the east coast. Palm Beach, Florida, is the venue for the 2022 Honda Classic at the PGA National Course. Sung Jae Im opened as the favorite to win this week’s tournament. But as we have seen this season, the betting favorite doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

2022 Honda Classic Overview

Founded in 1972 as the Jackie Gleason Classic, National Airlines ran the previous version of this tournament from 1969 through 1971. Subsequently, Gleason took it over and made it one of the richest offshore betting events on the PGA Tour. Since 2007, the main beneficiary of this tournament has been the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Specifically, the foundation is run by the wife of Jack Nicklaus, the only repeat champion of this event (1978-1979).

Last year Matt Jones was the winner of the Honda Classic. Im Sung-Jae was the 2020 winner, with Keith Mitchell taking the crown in 2019 and Keith Mitchell winning in 2019.

2022 Honda Classic Top Contenders

Sung Jae Im +1000

Sung Jae Im opened this week at 24th on the Official Golf Ranking. Late on, Im has been in reasonably good form. He has five top-10 or better finishes in his most recent nine tournaments. Last week was an uncharacteristic 33rd place finish at the Genesis Invitational. But Im finished 6th at the Farmers Insurance Open before that. His most recent win was at the Shriners Children’s Open.

Tommy Fleetwood +1400

Overall, Tommy Fleetwood ranks 44th on the Official World Golf Ranking. Fleetwood is coming off an 8th place finish at the PIF Saudi International. Of great concern is that Fleetwood hasn’t won a tournament since November 2019.

Louis Oosthuizen +1600

To summarize, Louis Oosthuizen ranks 13th on the Official World Golf Ranking. He was once ranked as high as 4th. Last time out for Oosthuizen was a 14th place finish at the WM Phoenix Open. Oosthuizen has only one career Golf Betting Lines win on the PGA Tour. But it was a big one at the 2010 Open Championship. He does boast 13 international championships.

Billy Horschel +1800

Billy Horschel is 22nd on the Official World Golf Ranking. Correlate, he was 6th at the WM Phoenix Open. Also, Horschel won the BMW PGA Championship last fall.

Daniel Berger +1800

Honda Classic SBG Best Bets: Billy Horschel.
