2010 PGA Tour Year in Review: A Wild Ride in the World of Golf Odds

Professional golfers play pretty much year round now and just because the 2010 PGA Tour schedule is now closed for the year that hardly means that there won’t be any more golf odds action until 2011. In fact, some of the most interesting events of the year, all in foreign locales or charitable pro-grams, are still to come.  But with the exciting finale to the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital Open in Las Vegas last weekend the 2010 PGA Tour season is now officially closed.  There will be no more PGA golf betting action until January when the Tour resumes in Hawaii.

A brief look back on the all the highs and lows of the past PGA season reveals a very interesting and unique year, the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time and may not see again for many more years.

The biggest story of the golf odds in 2010 was no doubt Tiger Woods.  He’s the biggest story in golf no matter what he does but with the personal scandal and his relatively poor –and limited play- throughout 2010 he was  the subject of great media speculation and over the top coverage …as always.

And while the coverage of Woods was hardly a surprise the emergence of some top young talent certainly was.

Who would have guessed that Dustin Johnson would be among the top 4 on the Money List this year?  Or that Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen and Martin Kaymer would all be Major winners in during the 2010 golf odds action?

And Lee Westwood the #1 ranked player in the world?  What?

2010 as indeed a year full of surprises and a shake up in the pecking order and it portends well for a bright future in the sport and for an exciting 2011.

Woods has proved human, and beatable, very beatable, as he failed to win a Major for the second year in a row for the just the second time in his career.  The aura surrounding the almost mythical player has now been shattered and players are playing with a greater confidence.

And despite winning a major traditional top players like Phil Mickelson and other heavyweights like Ernie Els, have proved that they’re not necessarily the men to beat any more either.

And so with a fresh young crop of talent in the golf odds the 2011 PGA season should be as exciting as any we’ve seen in decades.  Add to the possibility of Tiger returning to superhuman form and January can’t come soon enough for golf fans.
