Spain and Portugal Top Group B World Cup Betting Odds

There are two reasons why Group B is considered to be among the best.  That would be Spain and Portugal.  Ironically its bad luck for them to be together.  It’s easily conceivable to see either team winning the event.  Both are among the top choices with the World Cup Betting Odds.  Morocco and Iran are the understandable dogs of the group.   And with plenty of good reason.  They don’t stand a chance against the two powers.   Interestingly enough Group B will be settled in the opening match.  Portugal meets Spain on June 15.  Realistically it’s for the Group B championship.

Spain

Lost in the hype of Germany and Brazil is Spain.  Although a World Cup Betting Odds favorite they don’t quite get the same love.  Spain won the World Cup in 2010.  Their roster is overloaded with World Class talent.  With a new head coach and some fresh blooded young stars, they look resurgent.  Failure to get out of the 2014 Group stage still smarts.  As does a lackluster 2016 Euro performance.  At the Euro Italy upset Spain in the round of 16.  It was a shocking setback.

Veterans and Promising Youth

As a result of that failure respected Vincente del Bosque stepped aside.  Julen Lopetegui is the new man in charge.  A new era dawns for Spain.  A mixture of tested veterans and promising youth figure to have potential.  Sergio Ramos and David Silva lead the proven stars.  Isco, Marco Asensio and Saul are the future. Let’s face it, nobody is crying for La Roja.

Isco

Isco is among the world’s most promising young midfielders.  He will be a key sportsbook online asset should Spain make a deep run.  For Real Madrid Isco is a celebrated magician.  He scored five goals with two assists in eight qualifiers.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is synonymous with the glory of Portugal.  The Navigators are powered by captain CR7, arguably the world’s top player.  Andre Silva, Joao Moutinho and Bernardo Silva offer substantial support.  Portugal has long proven to be built for tournament play.  Their most impressive recent international win was against loaded France in the 2016 Euro.  And they did so without Ronaldo.

Games you can’t Miss

Even if Portugal loses to Spain in the opener they are a near certainty for the knockout stage.  Ronaldo is yet to be topped by the next great thing.  He can carry Portugal against anyone.

Iran

Iran has made a successive World Cup for the first time.  And they were the first Asian team to qualify.  They did so with 12 consecutive clean sheets.  Defense is all that Iran can emphasize.  They lay back deeply for opportunities to counter attack.  Head coach Carlos Queiroz has a hot temper.  He also causes controversy.  But he is tolerated because he gets results.

Morocco

Morocco returns to the World Cup after a 20 year absence.  The Atlas Lions qualified without permitting a goal.  Much like Iran they emphasize defense and hard work.

Matchup to Watch

Spain is the deepest Group B team.  But Portugal has the greatest player.  They bring better World Cup Betting Odds value.  Because they can certainly win it all.  And do so without being an overlay.
