Four Huge Underdogs in World Cup Betting

There a lot of teams that are big underdogs in World Cup betting but four really stand out.

New Zealand, North Korea (Korea DPR) and Honduras are all 500-1 in World Cup odds. Algeria is 200-1 but you can throw them in as a huge long shot because they may not get a point in Group C.

World Cup betting lists Japan and South Korea with longer odds than Algeria but each of those teams at least has a chance to get a point.  It seems very unlikely that New Zealand, Honduras, North Korea or Algeria will get a point in the World Cup.   North Korea is in serious trouble as they play in the toughest group.  They will be lucky to even stay competitive in Group G.  They are likely to get routed by Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast.  The question is not whether North Korea will get a point; the question could be whether or not they even score a goal. Of all the teams in the 2010 World Cup, North Korea looks to be the weakest.

Honduras looks to have very little chance in their group. They have to play Spain, Chile and Switzerland in Group H.  They are unlikely to get anything against Spain or Chile so it comes down to the match against Switzerland to see if they can get a point. It is only the second World Cup in history for Honduras.  The team played a friendly against Belarus recently and the entire team looked weak in a 2-2 draw.

New Zealand looks in over their head in World Cup odds but at least they play in a group that looks to be low scoring.  Group F favors Italy but the Italian team is not full of potent scorers.  Paraguay is not going to score a ton of goals and this is Slovakia’s first World Cup.  New Zealand is not very good but they could get lucky and eke out a point in Group F and if they do, they could decide who advances.

Algeria plays in a tough group with England and the United States but they are at least a team with a chance.  England is one of the favorites in World Cup betting and the United States has been tough but Algeria can at least be competitive against both teams.  It is very unlikely they will advance from Group C but they could steal a point or two.
