England Favored vs. Slovenia in Wednesday World Cup Betting

England is a one-goal favorite on Wednesday in World Cup betting as they try and defeat Slovenia to make the round of 16.

Despite two very unimpressive performances in their first two matches, England can advance to the knockout round with a win in World Cup odds against Slovenia.

World Cup betting on the three-way line lists England as a -225 favorite, Slovenia at +700 and the Draw at +300. The total on the match is 2.5 under. This match on Wednesday can be seen on ESPN 2 while at the same time the United States will play Algeria in a match that can be seen on ESPN.

England was one of the favorites to win the World Cup before it began but so far they have a total of one goal in two matches. Even though they have done nothing so far they can still advance with a win on Wednesday. Slovenia leads the group with four points and just needs a draw to make it to the next round. Slovenia was able to get a draw in their last match against the United States in World Cup betting thanks to a bad call by the referee but they need more help to survive against England. Slovenia’s defense against the United States was poor and England will be looking to take advantage. Wayne Rooney has done nothing so far and he is way overdue to score.

England made a change in goal for their last match as David James replaced Robert Green. It didn’t really matter as Algeria was no threat to score. James should at least get tested in this match against Slovenia. The key for England will be to get Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard to play well together. It has not happened so far and some in England believe the two midfielders simply can’t co-exist. They haven’t given Rooney many opportunities and some changes have to be made.

Slovenia has the ability to defeat England in World Cup odds if the English continue to exhibit the poor chemistry that has plagued them so far. England has more talent but so far it is not meshed well together. Slovenia has really not shown the ability to play solid defense which is what they will need against England. They couldn’t even hold on to a two goal lead vs. the U.S. in their last match and it seems unlikely they can hold down England.
