Surprise!! It’s Colombia!

Colombia has again emerged as a bet the World Cup surprise.  Nobody wanted the Coffee Growers at the open of competition in fact.  Due to their lackluster qualification Jose Pekerman’s team was derided as finished.  Before even taking the pitch.  But a fortunate draw helped reignite the team’s prospects.  Japan, Poland, and Senegal were hardly part of a group of death.  And Colombia took advantage to win Group H.  While not a great group somebody still had to win it.  Pekerman’s squad took form.  Once again, they have the look of a bona fide contender.

Colombia so Far

Colombia lost their opener 2-1 over resurgent Japan.  The Japanese proved to be a solid sportsbook squad.  In fact, the Samurai Blue also made the Round of 16.  The upset doesn’t look as bad now.  Poland was Colombia’s opponent in their second match.  Many thought the Poles had too much fire power for the Coffee Growers.  Yet Colombia put together a masterful performance.  Poland was rendered helpless in a 3-0 defeat.  At this point Colombia caught attention.  Punters began to respect them again.  Senegal provided the opposition in match three.  Colombia suffocated them with a 1-0 win.

England and Harry Kane

England has also earned newfound respect.  The Three Lions finished second behind loaded Belgium in Group G.  The English are remade.  If not outright reborn.  Manager Gareth Southgate has taken the world by storm.  He has proven to be the ultimate young and dynamic leader.  Tactically aggressive, Southgate has built a speedy team.  Striker Harry Kane is emblematic of England.  Kane has five goals in this tournament.  Including a hat track against Panama.  He literally saved the Three Lions prospects in their opening game.  Kane scored at game’s end to catapult England to glory.  Tunisia was the 2-1 victim.

England so Far

England’s second game was a 6-1 blowout over Panama.  The third match against Belgium was for the Group G title.  The Red Devils prevailed 1-0.  Still, everyone has been excited about the new and exciting Three Lions.  Entertaining football is their brand.

Matchup to Watch

As impressive as England has been Colombia presents unique challenges. The Coffee Growers bring vast experience.  Defensively they are well versed.  Making for a decided Bet the World Cup advantage.  Pekerman has his team playing with confidence.  They are a cohesive unit.  While not spectacular they are rock solid.
