Atlanta Not Expected to Repeat as MLS Champ with Soccer Betting Odds

Atlanta United FC is one of the most successful expansion franchises in American Sports history.  For one thing they became MLS champions in just their second season of operation.  Yet they are not a top favorite with the soccer betting odds to repeat as champions.  Los Angeles FC is the public choice to win the MLS championship with the LA Galaxy right behind.  MLS soccer has progressed to the point where parity is a major part of the equation.  There are a multitude of teams that have a legitimate shot at the 2019 title.

City of Angels Tops Betting Board

To begin with Los Angles FC is the soccer betting odds favorite for the MLS championship at 4/1.  The LA Galaxy is next at 6/1.  New York FC is a 9/1 choice with DC United at 10/1.  Following are Seattle Sounders FC at 11/1.  Defending champion Atlanta United FC is at 12/1 as is Toronto FC.  Then at 14/1 are the New York Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union.  At 20/1 is the Columbus Crew.  Subsequently at 25/1 are FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo and Montreal Impact.  Sporting Kansas City closes out top chalks as a 33/1 play.

Los Angeles FC

Powering to a highly profitable offshore betting start was Los Angeles FC.  To show, they lost only one of their first 13 games on the schedule.  In only their fourth season of operation Los Angeles FC has become a respected league member.  Carlos Vela has merged as a top forward in MLS for Los Angles FC. Vela was a star on Mexico’s World Cup team from last year.  Additionally, he played for Arsenal from 2005-2012.  Since joining Los Angeles FC in 2018 Vela has scored 25 goals in 39 apps.

LA Galaxy

Extending the top shelf soccer from Los Angles are the LA Galaxy.  Founded in 1994 they are the more established franchise.  Furthermore, they have been highly successful with a total of five MLS championships in their history.   Recent seasons have not been as successful with the soccer betting odds.   The Galaxy have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons.  And their last championship was in 2014.  At the beginning of the 2019 season LA showed championship potential with only four losses in 12 games.  Sweden national team star Zlatan Ibrahimovic led with nine goals in nine games.

New York City FC

Along the same lines New York City FC was leading the Eastern Conference.  In their fifth year of play New York City FC plays in iconic Yankee Stadium.  With only one loss in their first 11 games the “Boys in Blue” emerged as a top wagering choice.  Of great concern for the long-term prospects for New York City FC was a lack of reliable goal scoring.  Head coach Domenec Torrent has experience from Spain, Germany and the English Premier League.  He took over New York FC in the 2018 season.  In his first season at the helm they made the Conference semifinals.

Philadelphia Union

Especially impressive at the start of the 2019 season were the Philadelphia Union.  In their first 13 games they posted seven wins and three draws.  Philadelphia had the second-best goal differential in the MLS.  Striker Kacper Przybylko became the marquee man of Philadelphia after a long career in Germany.   Forward Cory Burke is a former star of the Jamaica national team.
