Winnipeg Prepares to Bomb Back to Top
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers may have narrowly lost in each of the past two Grey Cups. But they’ve also made four straight championship game appearances. Nobody in the West Division has proven they can surpass the Winnipeg juggernaut. Hence, that makes them the online betting favorite to hoist the trophy in 2024.
At the onset, general manager Kyle Walters and his staff were back for two more seasons while the team avoided losing offensive coordinator Buck Pierce to the Riders. Still, head coach Mike O’Shea will have to come to terms with an aging roster if he wants to get back on top.
Toronto Impresses Public Futures
Indeed, the Toronto Argonauts were the team nobody could touch in 2023. Until the Alouettes stunned them with one of the biggest playoff upsets in league history. Still, Toronto dominated the CFL awards. But headlines were instead dominated by Most Outstanding Player Chad Kelly’s concussion claims. In addition to that, there was an apparent lack of communication between the quarterback and his coaches.
Also, the team is facing major CFL lines changes on defense. Correlate coordinator Corey Mace is bound for Saskatchewan. That hasn’t scared off gamblers, who think Toronto’s all-time regular season wins record makes them a safe bet to secure their second Grey Cup in three years.
BC Lions Could Offer Hidden Value
With the 111th Grey Cup game scheduled to take place in Vancouver, the Lions have firmly entrenched themselves as contenders. Specifically, offensive balance has been the team’s issue in two straight West Final losses to Winnipeg. But Jordan Maksymic’s high-octane attack has made the Leos the most exciting team to watch in the league. Also, the playbook has pushed Vernon Adams Jr. into the elite quarterbacking tier.
However, they could be without major contributors on both sides of the ball for much of the 2024 season. Starting with all-star receiver Keon Hatcher and veteran halfback T.J. Lee suffering Achilles tears in their final game.
Was Montreal a Fluke or for Real?
It may not be as bad as starting the year ninth on the power rankings, but Alouettes fans are unlikely to be pleased. Montreal’s current odds are not favorable on the back of their storybook Grey Cup finish. Head coach Jason Maas appears to have built a culture worth celebrating in his first season at the helm. Additionally, general manager Danny Maciocia is busy bringing back much of their championship core.
Grey Cup MVP Cody Fajardo is locked in for two more seasons. At the same time, late additions Shawn Lemon and Darnell Sankey will both get full years to strut their stuff.
